DC Comics officially announced the NFTs, which fans can expect in April 2022. It has also been stated that the NFTs will be closely related to the future comics in the DC universe, and promises of an extended DC metaverse have been announced.
The NFT Collection Will Be Called Bat Cowl
DC has announced that the Bat Cowl NFT Collection will be launched on the 26th of April, 2022. This was through their official website and then on their Twitter account. There will be 200,000 NFTs in the collection, including 3D renditions of Batman’s famous cowl or mask. Dedicated fans of Batman will also be impressed that the collection will be inspired by Batman comic books dating back 83 years ago.
According to Jim Lee, the publisher, and CCO of DC Comics, Batman, is a great candidate for DC’s first entry into NFTs because ‘his appearance has changed and shifted over the past 83 years… what’s exciting about this amazing collaboration is that we are continuing the evolution of his distinctive Bat Cowl by bringing it into the modern digital world, making it accessible and more wildly engaging than ever before.’

The NFTs in the Bat Cowl Collection will cost $300, with a wide range of mask styles, shapes, and colours. They would be housed on Palm Studios, an Ethereum sidechain scaling solution. It is more affordable, quicker, and efficient with transactions than the standard Ethereum blockchain.
Besides owning the NFTs, DC has announced that Bat Cowl holders will have access to physical collectibles, exclusive merchandise, fan events, and behind-the-scenes content. Not only this, but they will also have access to the DC Universe website’s private fan forum.
DC Promises Integration with the Comics
Batman, or Bruce Wayne, is among today’s most recognizable and successful superheroes. The Justice League, whose fictional character is a part, contributes highly to popular culture. The brand is widely prevalent among Gen-Z and millennial generations, and Superman is the only more popular hero than Batman.
Because of how popular Batman is, it’s not surprising that DC Comics has decided to release 200,000 NFTs in partnership with Palm NFT Studio. This NFT release is expected to be a fantastic experience, whether for those who are fans of the Dark Knight and in the NFT space.
In the past few months, there has been an increase in studios and creators who want to release their characters as NFT collections. DC seems to be following this popular trend, and no one can talk about superhero NFTs without mentioning Marvel. Marvel has launched a good amount of NFT collections already.
Marvel launched their NFT collection through VeVe Digital Collectibles, including collectible statues of Captain America and digital comics like the Amazing Spider-Man #1.
DC has finally joined its main competitor in the NFT space. This isn’t the first time DC Comics is partnering with Palm NFT Studio. Previously, they partnered together in the DC fandom streaming event. This event propelled DC into the NFT world, as they announced their Batman NFTs not soon after with a wide range of benefits.
Promises of the DC Metaverse
Aside from announcing the Bat Cowl collection, DC also indicated its plans to expand into augmented reality and metaverse integrations. Although Palm NFT Studio and DC Comics did not share information on their Metaverse plans, it should be expected in the future.
DC stated that they would integrate the Bat Cowl Collection into future comics. While it’s unclear how they plan to do this with the ownership of an NFT, the press release mentioned a metaverse integration, so fans are looking forward to seeing them intertwined.
Those who participated in the DC FanDome event and got the free NFTs will get early access to buy the Bat Cowl NFTs. Palm NFT Studio gave fans over 100,000 complementary NFTs during the event. It is expected that DC will have a promising future in the NFT space.
