Trump and the Bitcoin 2024 Convention
Reports suggest that Trump is considering a speaking engagement at the Bitcoin 2024 convention. This event, scheduled to take place from July 25th to 27th, 2024, in Nashville, Tennessee, is a major gathering for the cryptocurrency community.
The convention is a significant event in the Bitcoin world, taking place immediately after the conclusion of the Republican National Convention. It was at a similar event in 2020 where El Salvador announced its decision to make Bitcoin legal tender.
Trump’s Growing Crypto-Friendly Stance
This news comes as many in the crypto industry perceive Trump to be a supporter of cryptocurrencies. This perception is in contrast to the current administration, which some view as less favourable to the industry.
Trump recently met with leading Bitcoin miners in the U.S., expressing his desire for the remaining Bitcoin to be mined domestically. He also pledged to end what he called “Joe Biden’s war on crypto,” promising to ensure the future of crypto and Bitcoin is made in America.
Crypto Donations for Trump’s Campaign
Trump’s apparent support for crypto has endeared him to the industry, leading to crypto donations to his campaign. However, the exact amount donated in crypto is not yet known.
Notably, Gemini crypto exchange founders Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss recently donated $2 million to Trump’s campaign. According to data from Breadcrumbs, Trump’s campaign had received approximately $60,000 in on-chain crypto donations prior to the Winklevoss’ contribution.
The total amount of on-chain donations currently stands at around $1,749,200. However, with additional contributions made off-chain via exchanges expected to be reported soon, the final figure could be significantly higher.
