NFT Bitcoin Surpasses $100M Trading Volume on Magic Eden in Feb: Exploring The Surge
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Key Points

  • Magic Eden’s Bitcoin NFT market reaches a peak with over $100 million in trading volume and a record $2 million in fees.
  • The first Bitcoin NFT collection, “Rare Pepes”, experienced renewed interest in 2023 with the introduction of ordinals and inscriptions.
  • Record Performance of Bitcoin NFTs on Magic Eden

The Bitcoin NFT market on Magic Eden has posted its best month yet.
This surge is attributed to sustained interest from industry participants and Wall Street in the leading cryptocurrency.
This month, Magic Eden’s Bitcoin NFT market reached a peak with over $100 million in trading volume.
This information was provided by a Dune Analytics dashboard contributed by Sealaunch.

The platform also set a record high with $2 million in fees for buying and selling Bitcoin NFTs.
Over 45,000 buyers and more than 91,000 sellers participated in the marketplace.
However, the sales did not exceed the figures set in December of the previous year.

Since September last year, the Magic Eden Bitcoin NFT market has seen an increase in volume, fees, buys, and sales.
During that time, Bitcoin (BTC) was trading for around $25,000 according to TradingView.
BTC has since risen over 125%, trading above $57,000 for the first time since December 2021.

Rare Pepes: The First Bitcoin NFT Collection

A collection known as “Rare Pepes” is recognized as the first NFT collection on Bitcoin, before the term “non-fungible token” was even coined.
This collection predates the NFT hype that later gathered on Ethereum, crypto’s second-largest chain, in late 2019.
This was after the successful launch of Crypto Punks two years earlier.

In 2023, Bitcoin NFTs made a comeback with the introduction of ordinals and inscriptions.
This method of adding data to BTC transactions was created by Casey Rodarmor in January of that year.
It paved the way for a resurgence in decentralized finance activity on crypto’s genesis blockchain.

This standard inspired a pseudonymous developer named Domo to create the BRC-20 framework.
This unlocked a multi-billion dollar token ecosystem on Bitcoin.
However, core contributors viewed it as a potential threat to BTC’s chain and labeled it a bug.
