The motive behind this heinous crime was nearly 3 Bitcoin (BTC). The National Police of Ukraine made this public after an incident was reported in the Solomianskyi district in Kyiv, Ukraine.
The Abduction and Murder
Residents in the district reported hearing screams and saw several men assaulting and dragging a man into a vehicle around midnight. This prompted a large-scale police operation in Kyiv and its surrounding regions to find and capture the suspects.
The suspects, who are aged between 24 and 29, had carefully planned the abduction. They discovered that the victim was a Bitcoin owner and tracked him to his residence. They attacked him upon his return and forcibly took him to an abandoned structure in the Kyiv region.
Details of the Crime
In the deserted location, the suspects forced the victim to transfer his Bitcoin into their cryptocurrency wallet. They then strangled him. In an attempt to hide their crime, they changed the car’s license plates and appearance, buried the victim’s body in a forest, and converted the stolen Bitcoin into cash.
The KORD special unit, along with other law enforcement officers, successfully arrested the suspects. During the operation, they seized money, the vehicle used in the crime, and other important evidence.
The case is currently being investigated, with charges of robbery, kidnapping, murder for profit, and crime concealment filed against the suspects. The quick and coordinated response of the police was crucial in solving this brutal crime.
