- The company plans to distribute 750 million ENA tokens through an airdrop, attracting both individual and institutional investors.
Ethena Labs, a synthetic dollar issuer, has unveiled the launch of its new governance token, ENA.
The protocol, recognized for its USDe token that earns yield, plans to disseminate 750 million ENA tokens via an airdrop. This airdrop will result in 5% of the token’s total supply entering the market.
ENA’s Market Impact and USDe’s Role
The announcement of the airdrop led to a notable increase in ENA’s price, which jumped 8%. The token quickly accumulated a significant market cap exceeding $890 million as of August 2, according to data from Coingecko.
At the heart of Ethena’s offerings is the USDe token. This “synthetic dollar” is designed to maintain a stable value close to one dollar. It accomplishes this through a unique combination of ether liquid staking tokens and short ether (ETH) perpetual futures positions.
This strategy has not only drawn the attention of individual investors but has also piqued the interest of institutional players within the cryptocurrency sphere.
MakerDAO’s Plans and Ethena’s Future Projects
MakerDAO, a stablecoin issuer, has disclosed plans to allocate 600 million DAI to Ethena’s USDe token. This move will be accomplished via the defi lending protocol Morpho Labs.
The confidence of MakerDAO in Ethena and USDe is rooted in an analysis by BA Labs, a part of MakerDAO’s advisory council. The analysis noted a strong user demand for the stablecoin and recommended a focus on higher leverage USDe pools. It also advocated for a more substantial allocation of MakerDAO’s stablecoin DAI in these areas.
In addition, Ethena has initiated a new phase of its airdrop on April 2. Known as the “Sats” campaign, it aims to onboard BTC as a backing asset for USDe. The project will use BTC perpetual futures, giving it access to an extra $25bn of open interest to hedge.
