Key Points

  • The fourth Bitcoin halving event has led to comparisons with gold due to its scarcity.
  • For the first time, Bitcoin’s issuance rate has fallen below that of gold.

The recent fourth halving event of Bitcoin (BTC) has sparked significant interest due to its scarcity, similar to gold, as pointed out by Glassnode analysts.

Bitcoin’s Issuance Rate Falls Below Gold’s

Glassnode marked this event as a historic moment when the issuance rate of Bitcoin fell below that of gold for the first time, highlighting a crucial change in the narrative of these two assets.

The halving event that took place on Saturday led to a decrease in block subsidies, with the issuance dropping from 6.25 BTC to 3.125 BTC per block. This means an issuance of about 450 bitcoins per day, further emphasizing the event’s influence on Bitcoin’s supply dynamics.

Analysts Weigh In

Yassine Elmandjra from ARK Investment Management shared similar views, stating that the issuance rate of Bitcoin post-halving is now lower than the long-term supply growth of gold.

Elmandjra’s analysis, as shared in the ARK Disrupt newsletter, highlighted the significant decrease in Bitcoin’s supply growth following the halving event, strengthening its comparison with gold. Glassnode analysts also backed Elmandjra’s observation about the reduction in Bitcoin’s supply growth.

They proposed that while the halving events continue to influence Bitcoin’s available traded supply, the effect might lessen over cycles due to the asset’s growing size and ecosystem.

Such evaluations offer important insights into the changing dynamics between Bitcoin and gold, illuminating Bitcoin’s increasing scarcity compared to the traditional precious metal.

As of now, Bitcoin’s price has dropped by 2.5% and has just dipped below $65,000.
