Questionable Attendee at Bitcoin 2024
The conference, which took place in Nashville, Tennessee, was attended by a mix of high-profile political figures, entrepreneurs, and some controversial figures. Among the attendees was Heather Morgan, also known as Razzlekhan, whose reasons for being at the event are still uncertain.
Jameson Lopp, co-founder of Bitcoin security provider Casa, mentioned in a post on Jul. 28 that he had encountered Morgan at the event. He noted that Morgan has been seen at multiple Bitcoin events over the past year, raising suspicions.
Morgan’s Involvement in Bitfinex Hack
Morgan became infamous in the crypto community due to her association with the 2016 Bitfinex hack. This incident led to the loss of about 120,000 BTC, marking one of the biggest crypto thefts in history. Early in 2022, Morgan and her husband, Ilya Lichtenstein, were arrested and charged with conspiracy to launder the stolen crypto.
According to the U.S. Justice Department, Morgan was not directly involved in the hack, which was carried out by Lichtenstein. However, she did plead guilty to a money laundering conspiracy involving the stolen BTC. Lichtenstein also pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit money laundering.
Both Morgan and Lichtenstein could face several years in prison, with potential sentences of up to 25 years for their charges of conspiracy to commit money laundering and conspiracy to defraud the U.S. However, Morgan was released on a $3 million bail and is currently under house arrest, while Lichtenstein is still in jail awaiting trial.
It was later reported that Morgan was granted permission to leave house arrest for work three days a week. She is now reportedly working as a “web3 advisor”.
